Charlotte Maskelony is a dramaturg and writer.

She works as assistant dramaturg in the music theater and concert divisions at Theater Freiburg in Germany. Currently, she’s preparing for the German premiere of the opera The Handmaid’s Tale in June. This fall, she was dramaturg for Grounded and Romeo and Juliet at Washington National Opera.

Charlotte has worked with the Glimmerglass Festival, the American Opera Project and the Saarländisches Staatstheater. Her time at the Staatstheater was supported through the Congress-Bundestag Exchange — a year-long State Department fellowship to Germany. She speaks both English and German, and has translated Wagner supertitles for the Glimmerglass Festival.

Charlotte studied classical voice, German and directing at Oberlin Conservatory. During her time at Oberlin she received an XARTs Grant, the Demuth Endowment Scholarship and the Dean’s Scholarship. Additional studies have brought her to the Universität des Saarlandes, On Site Opera, Goethe-Institut Washington, SongFest at the Colburn School and Brevard Music Center.
